Hatchet 3 is the Hatchet's horror film from 2013. It follows the story of Victor Crowley's ongoing adventures and his rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder portrays Victor Crowley while Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanbilt plays Misty.
The film's main strength lies in the use of real-world special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a lot less CG effects than other horror films. This allows for some truly terrifying moments to be captured throughout the film.
Kane Hodder is a standout in the ensemble and is a formidable villain. It feels like an (blog post) '80s slasher movie, with the dialogue being somewhat funny and snarky. Additionally, there are some genuinely funny moments throughout, which provide a comical contrast to the gut-wrenching action on screen.
Unfortunately because of the small budget (reportedly just $1 million) most locations used are re-used from earlier films in the series--the same boat house was used two times within the movie and a lot of the film appears to be a re-use from previous films in the franchise. Hatchet or Hatchet II may find it familiar, which could result in the movie feeling too familiar.
Overall, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I found it to be very like other films in the series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots of thrilling thrills and hilarious performances from its actors.
